Virginia Beach (formerly Princess Anne Co), VA
What is today called Old Donation Episcopal Church has been an active Anglican congregation since 1640, when it began serving Lynnhaven Parish. The earliest location was in an area that is currently under the waters of the Lynnhaven River, near the Church Point neighborhood. Reports, possibly rumors, circulate in modern times regarding sightings of tombstones on the bottom of the riverbed. Old Donation moved to its present location in 1694 because of the changing patterns of the river. The current building sits east of Independence Boulevard at 4449 N Witchduck Rd, Virginia Beach, 23455. Its cemetery surrounds the sanctuary on three sides. In addition to current burials, there are also older graves and tombstones that have been moved from other area locations. Cemetery Photographed 12 September 2004. |
