The best chronicle of the Neshoba County, MS Rhodes family was published in the 1930's in the Neshoba Democrat, Philadelphia, MS.

The Story of Neshoba by R. L. Breland, from The Neshoba Democrat,  July 6, 1934. (On file at the Philadelphia-Neshoba County Public Library).
THE RHODES FAMILY
A little more than one hundred years ago a little boy was born in the state of Georgia. His name was Watson Rhodes. This boy grew to manhood and was married in his native state. The lady of his choice as a life partner was a Miss Lewis (given name not learned). About the year 1854 Watson Rhodes and his wife and three or more children came to Neshoba County, Mississippi, and settled on the east side of Kentawka Creek practically opposite where McDonald town now stands.  Four sons and four daughters were given to this union. The boys were Franklin Rhodes, Jefferson Rhodes, William Rhodes and Wiley Rhodes; the daughter were Tempie, Jane, Fronie and Matilda. All these lived to be grown and married, except Jefferson who was killed in the Civil War. Frank Rhodes married Mary Jane Stafford. Her father, Jesse Stafford, also came to Mississippi from Georgia and married a Miss Lewis, likely not related to the wife of Watson Rhodes.  The children of Frank and Mary Rhodes were Watson, Benjamin F., Murphy, Marcus, Ottie, Ora and Velma. Marcus and Ora died young.  Wiley Watkins married Malinda (Maiden name not given) and reared a large family of children James, Benjamin, Bettie, Alma, David, Judie and Pearl. William Rhodes married Delia Hammons and reared the following children: Andrew, Mollie, Lee, Evie, Oscar and Callie. Tempie married John Clearman. Their children were Emma, Amanda and Viola, three girls. Jane married John Coats. Their family consisted of Henry, Jake, Delia and Allie. Frone first married Lemuel Morris. After his death she married Jerry Harris. No children were given to either of these marriages. Matilda married Adrian Pade. There children were Bennett, Lizzie, Levada, Lafayette, Andrews, Mollie and Ora. She still lives near Kosciousko.  I have not much data as to the marriages of the children of these men and women, the sons and daughters of Watson Rhodes and wife, except those of Frank Rhodes. His children married as follows: Watson Married Emma Posey, their children were Ora, Marshall, Grady, Clarence and Odessa. Murphy Rhodes married Bertha Johnson and have had the following children: Cleo (dead), Bernice, Garvin and Beatrice. Ben F. Rhodes married Cora Breland; their children are: Hays, Cecil, Reed, Walter, Eliza Lee, Zula, and Selma. Ottie married Benjamin Johnson, their children are: Lora Matilda and Carl Rothell. Verner married Clay Bankston and they have the following children: Stafford, Eugene, Ruby, Kenneth and Joe Ann.  "Great oaks from little acorns grow" and we see what a multitude have come from the one family of Watson Rhodes who was born a few more than 100 years ago; and this does not give more than half of the offspring of this family. Of course, Watson Sr. and wife have been dead for years, and nearly all of their sons and daughters have followed them to that borne from which none ever return. His coming to Mississippi has meant much to the state.

Sister Mrs. Ben Rhodes
Whereas on Sep 6, 1945, it pleased our Heavenly Father to call the spirit of Mrs. Ben RHODES from this world, her family and loved ones, Mrs. RHODES joined the church early in life and remained a regular and consistent member until bad health kept her on the bed of affliction for several years. Her cheerful smile and kindness presented a charm to all who knew her. We appreciate her many Sterling qualities as a wife, mother, and friend. In her unselfish manner she was always ready and willing to help others. Therefore, we desire to renew our sympathy to her family and loved ones in their hours of sorrow and pray God's richest Blessing upon them. Be it resolved by the Neshoba Baptist Church that a copy of these resolutions be placed upon the church minutes, a copy sent to Baptist Record and sent to the family.
