Descendants
of John Shearman

John Shearman was born about 1725 in Virginia, and died before May 1784 in Granville Co, NC. He married Catherine before March 1745/46 probably in Lunenberg Co, VA.

Female descendants are eligible for membership in the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution based on his Patriotic Service.

Children of John Shearman and Catherine are:

1. Frances Shearman, born about 1735; died September 17, 1824 in Granville Co, NC. She married Thomas Goss.  He was born about 1730 and died before August 1816 in Granville Co, NC.

2. Michael Shearman, born March 05, 1754. He married Mary.

3. John Shearman, born about 1750; died about 1795 in Caswell Co, NC. He married Mildred about 1771.  She died after 1799.

4. Ellenor Shearman. She married Unknown Meadows.

5. Sarah Shearman. She married Phillip Lewis.

6. Lucretia Shearman, born about 1752. She married John Cash.

Early Settlers of Mecklenburg Co, VA: "John Sherman & wife, Catherine, his wife of Cumberland Parish, Lunenberg County, Virginia, to William Wood, of same Parish and County...consideration 30 lbs...100 acres on the South side of Roanoke River, March 2, 1746. Witnesses Thomas Hawkins & William Seeley."

Granville Co, NC Deed Book A, p. 81-82. 4 Oct 1748, Thomas Mayson to John Sharman for 28 pounds, 200 acres on N side of Stony Creek near the head of Tarr River in Granville Co, NC. Wit: Thomas Roberson, Richard Gibs, John Conaway.

Granville Co, NC Deed Book A, p. 557, 24 Oct 1751, Richard Gibbs, planter, to John Shearmon, Plater, for 50 pounds 200 acres in Granville Co on Tarr River. Wit: John Paschal, James Medews, John Gragg.

Granville Co, NC Deed Book C, p. 285-286, 13 May 1757, Grant to John Shearman of Granville Co, NC for 219 acres in Granville Co, NC on his own line. Wit: Wm Churton, Sher Haywood.

Granville Co, NC Deed Book C, p. 453, 3 Sept 1757. John Sherman to Thomas Goss for 5 shillings sterling, land patented to Thomas Mason 20 Apr 1745 and a part that was granted by deed to said Sherman May 30, 1757 containing in all 180 acres on s side of Stoney Creek. Wit: Robert Harris, John White.

Granville Co, NC Deed Book C, p. 539, 30 Sept 1757, John Sharman to James Meadows for 5 shillings 180 acres in Granville Co being part of tract granted to Thomas Mason 20 Apr 1745 and part deeded to Sherman 30 May 1757 on S side of Stony Creek. Wit: Robert Harris, John White.

Granville Co, NC Deed Book D, p. 167-168. 1 Dec 1760. Grant to John Sherman for 663 acres on his own line and on Johnson's line in Granville Co, NC.

Granville Co, NC Deed Book E, p. 14, 3 Feb 1761, John Shearmon to John Williams for 5 shillings, 100 acres in Granville Co, NC on Tar River & Stony Creek, at Goss' & Williams' lines. Wite: James Langston, Thomas Goss.
