Stewart, p. 108: "Alexander and John Shered were enumerated in Pendleton in 1790 and were living in the Generostee Creek area, where Alexander bought land in 1804 from John Stewart from Guilford County, one of the counties in North Carolina where the Sherrard family had been found previously."

Sherard Families of South Carolina and Beyond, by Anita Wirick Roof, 1992, p. 34: "Martha's gravestone in the Generostee ARP Church Cemetery is a large concrete slab covering her grave with the following written on its surface: "In Memory of Martha Sherard, the consort of Alexander Sherard, who departed this life July 4, 1844 aged 76 years. The deceased immigrated from Ireland to this country about the 1st of June 1790. At an early age she made a profession of religion and during the past 54 years of her life was a practical and consistent member of the ARP Church at Generostee. She died in the hope of a blessed immortality. The Lord redeemed his servants ? none perish that Him trust."
