Chapter Announcements

 

  • The District I & II Fall Muster will be held on Tuesday, September 18, 2007 at the Holiday Inn Executive Center, 5655 Greenwich Road, Virginia Beach.  All members are invited and encouraged to attend.  The luncheon reservation deadline is September 10, 2007.  Print Call & Reservation Form

  • Virginia DAR's Honorary State Regent Patricia H. Mayer was elected NSDAR Vice President General at the 116th Continental Congress.

  • The Chapter Regent's project is the donation of books to the DAR Library in Washington, DC.  Members may make a donation to the chapter for this project or they may choose to donate a book from the library's current Wish List.  Please make a copy of your book donation confirmation (credit) letter for the chapter Librarian.

  • Chapter Membership is currently 95 (including 6 Juniors).  Congratulations to Betty Chaplain who was accepted into membership at the July 1, 2007 Board of Management.  Becky Overton's application has been verified.  She will receive her national number at the October Board of Management.  An application is  pending at national for Penny James.

  • Lynnhaven Parish is pleased to make available the beautiful Jamestown Pin and assorted items that are being offered by VADAR to support the foundation restoration of the Yorktown Custom House.  For information on purchasing, please contact the Chapter Chairman.  Items can be purchased by, given to, and worn by Non-DAR members. 

  • Lynnhaven Parish's nominee Dennis Borgerding of Kemps Landing Magnet School was chosen the 2006 American History Teacher of the Year by Virginia DAR.  Read the Virginia Beach Beacon Article.

  • The July 3, 2005 issue of the Virginia Beach Beacon included a cover article on DAR and SAR.  Lynnhaven Parish was one of the featured chapters.

  • "Using Probate Law to Sidestep Missing Records:  James Madison McCrary Shows the Way" was published in the June 2004 National Genealogical Society Quarterly (Volume 92, No. 2). The article documents the "burned county" research conducted by a former Lynnhaven Parish Registrar for the benefit of a prospective member. 

  • Lynnhaven Parish female ancestors were among those featured in the Daily Press July 3, 2004 article on DAR Female Patriots.
